ORCHARD PARK, NY (WIVB) - The Bills new front office and coaching staff said that every player had to prove themselves, no matter what they did before.  That proved to be true, as five undrafted rookie free agents made the final 53 man roster.

Receivers David Nelson and Donald Jones, guard Cordaro Howard, linebacker Antonio Coleman and safety Dominique Harris all beat the odds to stick on the roster.

"I think a lot of that credit goes to the scouting department, to pick those guys that didn’t get drafted that have an excellent opportunity to make your football team," said Head Coach Chan Gailey.  "They did a nice job of getting those guys in here, and then I thought our coaches got these young guys ready. That was impressive that they were teaching them and working with them and giving them the time. Not just saying, ‘Hey, you’re an undrafted rookie, go over here.’ They worked with them, gave them an opportunity and those guys took advantage of their opportunity. That’s what it’s all about."

Nelson has been impressive since training camp started. At six-foot-five, he is the big target the Bills are looking for.  Jones may have made the team with his ability on special teams.  Howard played for Gailey in college at Georgia Tech, and saw some first team reps due to injuries.  Coleman and Harris should also contribute on special teams.
