Ralph Wilson Stadium - It's coming up Saturday, the NFL cutdown. And the Buffalo Bills have to cut 22-players off the roster by six pm Saturday. That's what Chan Gailey and his coaching staff will be doing over the Labor Day Weekend.
The Bills finished up the preseason with a loss in Detroit Thursday night. It was their final chance to evaluate bubble players. Among that group--wide receiver James Hardy, whose roster spot may be in jeopardy. Late in Thursday's game, the Bills tried everything they could to get the ball to Hardy.
"We were trying to give him a good chance,” Gailey said after Thursday’s game. “He’d been out so much; we were trying to make sure that he got as many opportunities that he
could get."
"Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to play in the first two preseason games when the other guys were able to showcase their talent,” Hardy told News 4 Sports in Detroit. “Last game, I was only able to play half the game, and in the fourth quarter we didn’t throw the ball. I’ve just been patiently waiting on my turn, because I know I can still be a dominant receiver in this league for the Buffalo Bills."
Hardy’s not the only one who will be watching the waiver wire Saturday. The Bills are expected to release one of their four quarterbacks. Brian Brohm, Levi Brown, and Ryan Fitzpatrick may all be on the “bubble.” Linebacker Keith Ellison and DE John McCargo may also be cutdown day casualties.
