Paul Peck's NFL Picks for Week Seventeen

Can the Bills sweep the Patriots?

BUFFALO (WIVB) - Welcome to the final week of the NFL regular season.  There are playoff spots to be decided.  There is draft position to be decided.  There are jobs to be decided.  Plus, the Bills actually have some momentum as they try to do something that hasn't happened in ten years:  win in New England.

Last Week:  9-7

Season:  141-81

Bills vs. Patriots:  The Patriots need to win to gain home field advantage.  Even if they didn't need, you know they'll get their motivation from the September loss to the Bills.  I expect Bill Belichick to bring that up a lot.  The Bills are feeling good, after an impressive win over the Broncos.  A Buffalo victory would be a huge boost, but I just don't see it happening.  Now they're down two more offensive lineman, so the injuries continue to be a factor.  Fitz will make some plays against the bad Pats defense, but I don't know if the Bills defense will get the turnovers they used to win in Orchard Park.  Tom Brady and his revenge factor could be ugly.  Patriots win 31-20.

Jets vs. Dolphins:  The Jets must have this game to have any shot at a playoff spot.  The Dolphins are coming off a devastating collapse at New England. So why do I feel like Miami has a better chance?  I'm so sick of the Jets hype for an overrated, flawed team.  But with so much on the line, I think they will dig deep and be the better team.  Winner: Jets.

Broncos vs. Chiefs: Same deal for the Tebows.  Win and they get the AFC West.  At home, I think it will happen.  Tebow can't win when the rest of the team looses control of the game, like they did in Buffalo.  I don't think KC can do that to them.  Winner: Broncos.

Colts vs. Jaguars:   Can the Colts actually win, but possibly lose out on Andrew Luck?  Yes, because the Jags are that bad.  Good luck equals no Luck.  Winner:  Colts.

Texans vs. Titans:  Texans are locked into their playoff spot.  But they need to get some confidence going into the playoffs.  Titans still have a shot, although they need help.  I'm not sold on a rookie QB taking this team very far.  This game will show that again.  Winner: Titans.

Chargers vs. Raiders:  The Silver and Black have a shot.  Somewhere up above, Al Davis will deliver a Bronx-accented pregame speech for the ages.  Norv Turner and A.J. Smith appear to be done.  So are the Chargers.   Winner: Raiders.

Bengals vs. Ravens:  It's win and in for the Bengals.  But the Ravens need to win for the division title and home field.  The game's in Cincinnati, where they're actually having trouble selling tickets.  Those no shows will regret that.  Go with the MORE desperate to win team.  Winner: Bengals.

Steelers vs. Browns: It won't matter if Big Ben plays.  Not against the Browns.  Steelers need to win to clinch the division.  They will.  If you're miserable as a Bills fans, you could live in Cleveland.   Winner: Steelers.

Redskins vs. Eagles:  How about the Skins finding one more good effort?  Don't doubt Rex Grossman.  Eagles saved their season somewhat, but too many vets are already packing it up.   Winner: Redskins.

Bears vs. Vikings:  Joe Webb seems to have given the Vikes some life.  More than anyone named McCown can give to the Bears.  Sometimes young teams wrapping up bad years find some excitement in the last game.  Winner: Vikings.

Seahawks vs. Cardinals:  Marshawn Lynch will use the Pro Bowl snub (and Skittles) to get himself juiced up for a run towards the end zone (and free agency).  Winner: Seahawks.

49ers vs. Rams:  Really, you need me to actually make a pick here.  Let the trade offers for the top pick start rolling down the Mississippi.  Good Luck.  Winner:  49ers.

Panthers vs. Saints:  Brees vs. Newton will be a great battle to watch for the next few years.  Saints are unstoppable, and may be that way in the playoffs.  This game will show that again.  Winner:  Saints.

Lions vs. Packers:  Lions need to send a message for now, and the future.  They want the Packers to know that this divison will be up for grabs.  That's more motivation.  Plus, Aaron Rodgers may not play.  Winner:  Lions.

Falcons vs. Bucs:  Reeling Falcons need some good news heading into the playoffs and a possible rematch with the Saints.  That good news wears burnt orange and is burnt out.  Winner:  Falcons.

Giants vs. Cowboys:  Winner take all NFC East showdown. Why do I hate the weak-willed Cowboys in big games like this?  Oh, because they always lose them.  Eli will carry the Giants on his arm, and carry them to the playoffs.  Winner:  Giants.
