ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) - News 4 has confirmed the Buffalo Bills are releasing Punter Brian Moorman.
The team named Moorman a special teams captain in September . Thirty-six-year-old Brian Moorman joined the team in 2001.
Moorman holds several punting records with the team. He also holds a record for playing 176 games in a row, which is the longest active consecutive games played in the NFL for a punter. Moorman never missed a game with the Buffalo Bills and is the third punter in NFL history with at least two career touchdown passes.
With veteran punter Brian Moorman reportedly out of the picture, the Bills signed rookie Shawn Powell Tuesday, Powell's high school coach, Tommy Atha tells News 4 Sports.
Powell spent all of training camp with Buffalo, after finishing an All-American career at Florida State.
According to Atha, the Bills brought Powell in for a workout at 11am today, but offered him a contract before the workout even began.
Buffalo hosts New England this Sunday in a key AFC East matchup.
