BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Super Bowl victory was literally right at the finger tips of western New York native Rob Gronkowski.
Gronkowski may not have had the biggest impact in the game, but with the Lombardi trophy on the line, he was just inches away from making the biggest catch of the night.
Gronkowski said, “I was out there with the team, I was 100 percent. I was going full go out there, and doing everything that I could.”

Williamsville’s Rob Gronkowski hit the field Sunday night, with a lot of people watching to see how his ankle injury would affect his play on football’s biggest night. However, according to him, he was good to go.
Gronkowski said, “The trainers did a great job, all two weeks. And when I got to the game time, I was ready to go.”
Gronkowski was close to catching the game-winning touchdown pass. With seconds left on the clock, he was inches away from catching a tipped ball in the end zone, to put the Patriots on top of the Giants.
Gronkowski said, “I was close, but close doesn't matter. Close isn't enough. I mean close doesn't get it done. So I mean you either gotta catch it, or you don't, and it didn't happen.”
When Gronkowski was asked when he was having surgery, he asked the reporter where he heard that, and that he was wrong. Gronkowski did say he’d be working hard in the off season to improve the strength of the ankle, to try and get back to the Super Bowl.
