Defense dominates day 3 of Bills camp

Gilmore Shines Saturday

PITTSFORD, N.Y. - Defense dominated Day Three of Bills Training Camp, the first practice in full shoulder pads.

Constant pressure from the defensive front four and impressive coverage in the secondary highlighted the day.

Stephon Gilmore in particular had a strong day, intercepting a pass early in the practice session, and coming up with an impressive pass break-up during 11-on-11 work.

Head Coach Chan Gailey said the offense has some work to do, but admitted he is impressed by Gilmore early on in camp.

"The thing about Stephon (Gilmore) is I found is he is very consistent," said Gailey. "There is no up and down in the guy. What you see every day is what you get every day. And that has been a pleasant surprise. A lot of times rookies sometimes something bad happens to them and they go into a tank. He is pretty strong in that area."

Gilmore said he does feel like a rookie, but has complete confidence that he can line up against anyone and succeed.

The Bills will host their first night practice of training camp tomorrow at 6:30pm.

Notes: WR David Nelson left practice early with a knee injury.  Gailey said he is told it is just a bruise, and team doctors do not think there is any ligament damage.  The team also held Shawne Merriman and Erik Pears out of practice today.  Merriman rolled an ankle yesterday, and Pears tweaked his groin.  Neither injury is serious, according to Gailey.
