BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Next week, the NHL season will reach the halfway point. The Buffalo Sabres are running out of time to climb back into contention.

At the moment, the Sabres hold the second-worst record in the NHL at 6-12-1 through 19 games.

"We don't have to kid ourselves, we have, what, 29 games left? We probably need to win 21 of them to even have a chance," said leading-scorer Thomas Vanek.

That paints an urgent picture for the Sabres. Buffalo will be on the road against Tampa Bay Tuesday night.
