BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - NHL games are canceled through December 30th, although Sabres forward Nathan Gerbe would not have been playing anyway.
Gerbe had offseason surgery on his back and could not skate for six months. He just began hitting the ice again within the last few weeks.
"It's been a good time for me to get healthy," said Gerbe. "I had spine surgery in the summer... I'm just starting to catch my groove and get strong again, and hopefully I can get back at some point this season."
Gerbe says he is still confident the NHL and the players union can reach a deal to end the lockout in time to salvage part of this season.
