BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) - As injuries started piling up in the Mets' rotation, thousands of eyes starting looking Matt Harvey's way. This week, the former first round pick will make his Major League debut.
The Mets will call up Harvey to start this Thursday against Arizona.
Harvey has made a steady climb through the Mets minor league system, winning 20 games in his two years since being drafted. He earned a spot in the AAA All-Star Game this year.
The move comes on the heels of perhaps Harvey's worst outing of the season, giving up six earned runs in five innings of work Saturday. Mets manager Terry Collins mentioned that could have been a case of Harvey thinking about a potential call-up.
This season for the Bisons, Harvey has a 7-5 record with a 3.68 ERA and 112 strikeouts. The Mets expect to formally activate Harvey this Tuesday.
