NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) - They are bursting with pride Thursday night in Niagara Falls. Jonny Flynn is a first round draft pick in the National Basketball Association.

And now they wait to see if his former high school teammate Paul Harris gets picked in the second round.

Jonny Flynn went with the sixth overall pick in the draft to the Minnesota Timberwolves. And he went immediately after the T-Wolves drafted another point guard right ahead of him, Spanish teenager Ricky Rubio.

Once he was picked, Commissioner David Stern made the announcement from the podium.

Minnesota got another point guard with their third pick in the first round, North Carolina's Ty Lawson. But they traded him to Denver for a future first rounder.

Back in his hometown, Jonny Flynn's friends and former Niagara Falls High school coaches and teammates got together to watch the draft and root on their man.

Tim Winn, a basketball name in his own right, gathered with other Niagara Falls basketball fans at Shorty's Sports bar to watch the draft.

Winn and others expected Flynn to go to Sacramento with the fourth overall pick, but that didn't happen. So they stripped off their Kings jerseys and waited two more picks.

For Winn, Falls basketball assistant coach Sal Costantino and others, there's no doubt Jonny Flynn will thrive in Minnesota.

Paul Harris of Niagara Falls may go in the second round.

The Detroit Pistons drafted Jonas Jerebko of Sweden in the second round, 39th overall.

His dad, Chris Jerebko, is a Depew native, and his grandparents still live here.

The draft started with the Los Angeles Clippers choosing Oklahoma star Blake Griffin with the first overall pick.
