McKelvin signs new deal with Bills

Will have a chance to earn starting CB job

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) - Leodis McKelvin made his new deal official today, re-signing with the Bills.

The former first-round pick agreed to terms Saturday, before coming to town today to sign the contract.

"This was the only offer I was really looking into," said McKelvin. "They did a good job of coming after me and did a good job of doing it before the deadline of whenever the teams could talk to me. Buffalo was always the place I wanted to be."

The deal is reportedly for four years and $20 million - the kind of money a team would pay a starting cornerback. Bills Head Coach Doug Marrone said in a press release today that McKelvin will have an opportunity to win a starting job, in addition to his kick return duties.

"I see myself being able to go out there and compete for the starting spot. Contracts say what they say, but I am just going out there competing, doing what I have to do to compete and make this team be better," said McKelvin.

McKelvin finished the season on Injured Reserve after injuring his groin. BuffaloBills.com reported that McKelvin had surgery in January to repair the injury.

Free agency officially opens Tuesday at 4pm in the NFL. The Bills have not re-signed starting guard Andy Levitre or pass rushing DE Kyle Moore, among others.
