SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WIVB) - For the third time in his career, Niagara's Joe Mihalich is the MAAC Coach of the Year.

Mihalich won the award Thursday night at the MAAC Basketball Awards Show at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

His Niagara team won the regular-season MAAC crown for the first time since 2005 this season, earning the #1 seed in this weekend's conference tournament.

Mihalich is just the second coach in conference history to become a three-time Coach of the Year winner, joining Saint Peter’s Ted Fiore.

The Purple Eagles play the winner of Siena and Marist in Saturday afternoon's MAAC quarterfinals.
