On day two of the Major League Baseball Draft, the Western New York area had 3 athletes that were selected.
In the 28th Round, Orchard Park High School Senior Kyle Hoppy was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles (pick 836 overall). While playing for the Quakers this past year, Hoppy had 8 Home Runs and 34 RBI's. He holds the school record for most hits.
Zach Anderson, the right handed pitcher for the University at Buffalo and a graduate of Williamsville East High School was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 29th Round. Anderson became the third Bulls player to be drafted since 2000. This past season in 23 appearances, Anderson struck out 55 batters. He was also named the Reliever of the Year in the New England Collegiate Baseball League last summer.
From Canisius College, Kevin Mahoney was selected in the 23rd Round of the Draft by the New York Yankees. Mahoney, a senior from Miller Place, NY, was the 2009 MAAC Player of the Year. He finished the season with a .330 batting average, 22 home runs and 62 RBI's. He is the first Golden Griffin selected since Joe Mammott was picked in the 6th round in 1994 by the Boston Red Sox.
