BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB.com) - The game is known at the Battle of the Bridge for the Canal Cup. Today, the Niagara Purple Eagles visited the Koessler Center to take on the Canisius Griffins. The Purple Eagles entered the game leading the MAAC with an 8-1 conference record while the Griffs sat at 6-3.
In front of a sold out crowd, the Purple Eagles added to their win total, scoring a three pointer with just four seconds to play. Marvin Jordan, who came off the bench, scored the game winner and had a game-high 23 points on the night en route to the Purple Eagles 66-65 win. Chris Manhertz led the Griffs with 17 points.
Both teams played an up-tempo game. The Griffins are now 6-4 in conference play and the Purple Eagles are now 8-1 in the MAAC. The two teams will meet again on February 10th at the Gallagher Center, where the Griffins will get another shot at the first-place Purple Eagles.
