LEWISTON, N.Y. (WIVB) - Earning the top seed in the MAAC tournament was only half the battle for Niagara. Now the Purple Eagles have to prove they can win when it counts.
Niagara will take on the winner of Marist and Siena this Saturday in the MAAC quarterfinals.
In case NU needed a wake-up call, they already got one last week, losing to Rider in the next-to-last regular season game of the season. It turned out, the Purple Eagles clinched the regular season title anyway, but it certainly put the team on notice heading into the tournament.
"We needed that loss," said sophomore Antoine Mason. "We needed to know that everybody can get beat."
If both Niagara and Canisius win in Saturday's quarterfinals, they would take on each other Sunday in the MAAC semifinals.
