Report: Marrone to hire Hackett

Former Bills assistant was OC at Syracuse

According to a report tonight, Bills Head Coach Doug Marrone will bring Nathaniel Hackett with him from Syracuse as the first addition to his staff in Buffalo.

Hackett was Marrone's offensive coordinator at Syracuse, but at 33 years old and with little NFL experience, he does not fit the type of coordinator Marrone had said he wanted to hire in Buffalo.

"Offensively, we want people with NFL experience. I think our coordinators, we want to make sure they've been in this league. This is a very, very difficult job," Marrone said Monday in his introductory press conference.

Hackett had a stint as Buffalo's offensive quality control coach in 2008-09, and held the same job with Tampa Bay.

ESPN reported Hackett would join Marrone's staff.

Also today, News 4 Sports confirmed the Bills requested permission to interview Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan said that interview would take place Tuesday. The Bills also reportedly requested permission to interview Jacksonville DC Mel Tucker.
