Ruff in "disbelief" over team's play

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Sabres Head Coach Lindy Ruff says he is in disbelief over the team's recent play, with the Sabres having lost six of the last seven games.

Buffalo held a two-goal advantage in Sunday's game, before losing 4-3 to Florida. The matchup was filled with mistakes and missed opportunities, which has been a trend this season.

"We really came out skating well," said Ruff. "A couple of our defensemen that have struggled have really cleaned their games up, and then a couple of other guys struggled. That falls into the disbelief category, too."

Another issue has been the lack of production from anyone not named Vanek, Pominville, or Hodgson. That top-line trio has produced 18 of the team's 27 goals in the first nine games.

"We have something special, that we have a line that's - as they say in Spanish - 'en fuego.' Everybody else would be jealous of that line right now," said Ruff.

"We don't have the secondary, so now we're jealous of the secondary around the league."

One of those top-line stars, Thomas Vanek, is the NHL's first star of the week.

Buffalo travels to Ottawa Tuesday night for a 7:30 p.m. start against the Senators.
