Sabres react to NHL offer

AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - Sabres players weighed in Wednesday on the NHL's 50/50 proposal, saying there is more work that needs to be done in order to strike a deal.

A handful of players are still skating several times a week in Amherst, trying to stay sharp for whenever the lockout comes to an end.

The league's latest offer is the first step toward playing again, but several players say it is not exactly what they were hoping to see.

"I think the first view of it, is that it's a pretty fair deal, when you hear what different people are saying," said Sabres forward Jason Pominville. "But I think there's a lot of detail in it that doesn't really advantage the players that much, and once you get to find out what they are and what it really means, I think there's still a lot of work to be done."

One of the issues the players want clarified revolves around "Hockey-Related Income." The two sides are still not clear on what exactly that will include.

"50/50. 50 percent of what?," said Sabres defenseman Jordan Leopold. "That's where the definition has to come down. You look at 50 percent of that last HRR revenue numbers, we're looking at different breakdowns going forward."

Leopold and Robyn Regehr both will be in Toronto Thursday, with labor talks set to resume at 1pm.
