BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Word of a potential new Buffalo Sabres owner has the hockey fans buzzing.

Terrence Pegula said, "I'm not the easiest guy to track down."

And we couldn't track Pegula down either. He's the man who some say is most likely to buy the Buffalo Sabres franchise. It's not officially for sale, but TheHockeyNews.com is reporting that Pegula signed a letter of intent to buy the team for about $150 million.

Ken Campbell of The Hockey News said, "I don't think they've ever been actively shopped or for sale, but I think Golisano has made it clear that he'd be happy to divest himself of his interest in the team if the right buyer came along. And this guy appears to be the right buyer."

That's because Pegula has deep pockets. The billionaire after donated an ice arena at his Alma Mater, Penn State.

Pegula said, "We are taught in Matthew 6, "Do not lay up treasures on earth, but lay up treasure in heaven." And I've thought long and hard, 'Do I really want to contribute this much money to a hockey arena?'"

We caught up with sports fans, who would love to see a change at HSBC arena.

Roger Weiss said, "I'm just hoping having western New York connections that he'll do what it takes to win the Stanley Cup and not be worried about the bottom line."

Brett Banker said, "I think it's probably time for Mr. Golisano to give it up and I look forward to learning more about him."

Perhaps Sister Maria Paris put it best, when referring to Pegula, who is said to be worth $3 billion.

Sr. Maria Paris said, "Whatever. If he's got it, he oughta spend it on us. It's worth it!"

Campbell says that one of the conditions for a sale would be keeping the team in Buffalo and fans say, that's more important than winning the Stanley Cup.
