BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The NHL is announcing the cancelation of the 2012-13 schedule through October 24th. The NHL says the regular-season schedule had a total of 82 games between October 11th and October 28th.

The league reported on NHL.com Thursday afternoon, “The cancelation was necessary because of the absence of a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL Players' Association and the NHL.”
The lockout is the NHL's fourth shutdown since 1992, including a year-long dispute that forced the cancelation of the entire 2004-05 season.
Over the past few weeks, there has been news of Buffalo Sabres players hitting the ice in hockey leagues overseas during the lockout. Sabres defenseman Andrej Sekera made a deal with HC Slovan Bratislava in the KHL. Tyler Ennis and Christian Ehrhoff are also playing overseas.
