BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Hockey negotiations are expected to continue Wednesday. Tuesday, the NHL and the Players Union spent the day trying to negotiate a deal. League officials presented a response to the latest union proposal, that was late Tuesday night.

The union said it would study the league's response, with more negotiations Wednesday. A casually dressed nhl Commissioner Gary Bettman said Tuesday night, he’s optimistic, but there is still more work to be done.

Bettman said, “The fact that we’re involved in a continuous process is something that I am glad to see, but we’re clearly not done yet.”

Bettman said a deal needs to be in place by January 19th, to have a 48-game season.
