BUFFALO (WIVB) - He says he won't be yelling, jumping or moving around. But Lindy Ruff says he'll be back behind the Sabres bench for tonight's game against New Jersey. Ruff told reporters after the morning skate that he will give it a try for the first time since breaking three ribs in a practice fall last week.
Ruff says he will wear a pad to protect his broken ribs in case a puck or stick or player gets too close. Assistant coach James Patrick will continue to play a large role in the changes and substitutions because Ruff still has a hard time raising his voice to yell instructions. Assistant coach Teppo Numinen will remain on the bench, where he's been since Ruff was injured.
Monday, Ruff watched practice from the bench for the first time. He is still not ready to go on the ice for practice.
