UNIONDALE, NY (WIVB) - Goals by Derek Roy and Paul Gaustad, and shootout scores by Brad Boyes and Jason Pominville helped the Sabres outcome a 3-1 deficit, and beat the Islanders 4-3 on Saturday night. It's Buffalo's third win in the last four games, and they've earned seven of a possible eight points in those four games.
Giveaways by Mike Weber and Roy allowed the Islanders to score two of their three first period goals. Despite outshooting the Isles 17-9, the Sabres trailed 3-1. Nathan Gerbe had the Buffalo goal.
Roy's score came in the second period. Gaustad's goal came with 8:14 to go in the game. The Sabres had to kill off an overtime power play when they were called for too many men on the ice. Ryan Miller made a number of key saves to make that happen. Miller made 35 saves for the win, the 235th of his career. That moves him past Dominik Hasek into first place in team history.
Boyes scored first in the shootout. Miller then stopped P.A. Parenteau and Franz Nielsen before Pominville's goal clinched the victory.
The Sabres are now tied with the Islanders for 12th place in the Eastern Conference, both having 50 points.
