BUFFALO (WIVB) - On Saturday, there was no third period comeback. A day after the Sabres battled from behind for a win over Dallas, they could not complete another comeback. The Sabres lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1, ending their three game winning streak.
Buffalo once again fell behind 2-0, but could only score once to come up short. Jason Pominville's 20th goal of the season gave Buffalo fans some hope. But a series of chances after that were not finished, and the Sabres six game point streak is over.
Zack Kassian had a great chance for the tying goal. Pominville was stopped on a great save. In the final minutes, Christian Ehrhoff hit the post on a slapshot that would have also tied the game. The Sabres outshot the Lightning 14-5 in the third period.
Steve Downie and Steven Stamkos scored for the Lightning. Mathieu Garon made 26 saves for the win.
Ryan Miller started again, and made 26 saves.
Tampa moves to 54 points, tied with the Sabres for 11th in the Eastern Conference. Both teams are eight points behind eighth place Toronto.
Notes: Kassian was called up from Rochester, while Luke Adam was sent down...Lindy Ruff coached again from the press box....Cody McCormick sat out with an upper body injury.
