Buffalo, NY - The NHL draft behind them, the Buffalo Sabres now turn their
attention to free agency. The signing period starts this Wednesday.
And it looks like Sabres defenseman Jaroslav Spacek is going to
test the free agent water. GM Darcy Regier says he's had dialogue
with Spacek's agent about a new deal but there's nothing in place.
"I did receive an e-mail from his agent this morning," Regier told us. " I havent responded to it yet. I think we'll probably talk again today and tomorrow, and we'll see where it goes. I do expect him to go into the unrestricted market and test it."
The Sabres have retained the rights to three restricted free agents by extending them qualifying offers. That means they get to match offers made to forwards Drew Stafford and Clarke MacArthur..and defenseman Andrej Sekera.
