RANDOLPH, N.Y. (WIVB) - Whether she's spiking a volleyball or sliding into home plate, nothing seems to hold back a star player from Randolph.

Marah Maycock is our October female scholar-athlete. She is always striving for perfection on the court, at the field and in the classroom.

"I like to carry effort into all my sports. They're really important to me and I love to win, of course. I always want to look back on life in high school and know I couldn't have done anything else better. I want to know I did everything with my best effort," said Maycock.

Her volleyball and basketball coach, Shawn Huntington, said, "Marah's an awesome teammate. She really pushes the rest of her teammates around her. She gives them support when they need it. We always look to her to pull us through when we need a point. She's an awesome teammate."

Maycock added, ""My academic work is always been something I prized and possessed. It's really important to me. I always try to do my best effort in everything. I like to please my teachers, please my parents. I know that's what they want."

PhysEd teacher Sally Hach said, "Just seeing what she does in the classroom is exemplary. She's a role model to all the children. With her teammates, she's a leader and a role model and definitely deserving of this award."

"I feel like people look up to me so I give them the best guidance I can. I encourage them with words, actions, everything. I really feel like that's important. That's why I like playing sports because it's a team and you get to teach others," said Maycock.

Huntington concluded, "She is a top-notch person. She's top-notch in school and on the field. Just all around well-rounded young individual."

Next year, Maycock will attend and play volleyball at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania.
