BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Mikhail Grigorenko's five-game tryout is already finished. Now the Sabres have to figure out if they want to keep him around a while longer.
Due to the shortened schedule, players coming out of juniors can only play five games before their entry-level contract kicks in.
That doesn't mean that will happen tomorrow, though. Sabres Head Coach Lindy Ruff said today, he will consider sitting Grigorenko out Tuesday against Toronto to buy more time to make his decision.
"He was good with the puck," said Ruff. "Defensively... there's some adjustment from the way they play in juniors to the way we play. We're working with him, and just want to continue to work."
"I'm trying not to think about it," said Grigorenko. "Just trying to work hard."
The Sabres host Toronto Tuesday night at 7pm. Leading-scorer Thomas Vanek, who missed Sunday's game with an injury, returned to the ice today for the team's optional skate. Ruff said he is optimistic Vanek will be able to play against the Maple Leafs.
