UB star linebacker Khalil Mack will sit out next week's season opener at Georgia to serve a one game suspension.
Mack had been suspended indefinitely after violating team policy. He will miss the first game of the season, but will be allowed to re-join the team.
University at Buffalo Athletic Director Danny White issued the following statement this afternoon:
“I want to express that Khalil Mack is a young man with character and integrity. Regarding this situation, the university has completed its review in accordance with relevant university policies and procedures and athletic department protocol. Because of student privacy laws, we cannot comment on the specifics.
As a result of this process, I have reinstated Khalil Mack to participate in regular team activities, but he will be suspended from playing our first game against Georgia.”
Mack was a first-team All-MAC selection last year as a sophomore, and earned a spot on multiple award "watch lists" heading into this season.
