AMHERST, NY (WIVB) - Maybe the U.B. Bulls should just start practicing the Lambeau Leap. For the second time in three years, a Bulls football player is joining the NFL's Green Bay Packers. Receiver Marcus Rivers, a Lackawanna native, has signed as an undrafted free agent.
He joins his ex-Bulls teammate and Niagara Falls native James Starks, who was drafted by the Packers in 2010.
Rivers started his last two seasons with U.B., catching 117 passes and 7 touchdowns. He has great physical skills which appeal to the NFL. RIvers is 6-3, 220 pounds.
"My agent was calling me and telling me a bunch of teams were interested," said Rivers, recounting how the time after the draft led him his signing, "when he told me I was going to be a Packer, the first thing I thought about was James. I tried tell everybody and contact him and take the process in. My whole family laughed, cheered and cried together. It was a great experience."
He conducted his interview at U.B. Stadium wearing a Packers hat.
Rivers said Starks actually gave him workout shoes when Starks left for the Packers. Rivers used those and thinks that may have been the good luck he needed.
Another Bull may get his chance. Defensive tackle Ritchie Smith has been invited to the New York Jets rookie tryout camp.
