BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Once upon a time, Stan Van Gundy was a young assistant coach at Canisius. Two NBA Head Coaching stops later, he returned today to talk to the current Griffins roster.
After last season's very public falling out with former Orlando star Dwight Howard, many of today's questions centered around that relationship. Van Gundy insists, he would like to give coaching Howard another shot.
"I have great appreciation for Dwight," said Van Gundy. "I've said many times since the end of the year. It probably will never happen... but I'd welcome the opportunity to coach him again."
Van Gundy, who was an assistant coach with Canisius during the 1986-87 season, spoke to both the players and a group of boosters this afternoon.
