Sabres forward Thomas Vanek is close to signing in Austria to play during the NHL lockout.
Vanek's agent, Steve Bartlett, tells News 4 Sports the deal is not 100% complete, but once insurance issues are settled he will be joining the Graz 99ers.
That would make four Sabres players who have signed overseas to play during the lockout. Andrej Sekera, Tyler Ennis, and Christian Ehrhoff already signed elsewhere.
The NHL has already canceled the entire preseason schedule. NHL labor talks are scheduled to continue Tuesday.
Buffalo's season opener is set for Saturday, October 13th. That date appears to be very much in jeopardy at the moment.
