MT. HOOD, Ore. (CNN/KPTV) - Crews were able to rescue a man and his dog after they fell into a canyon on Oregon's Mount Hood.

They were walking along a trail when the dog fell, and his owner Alan Rosenfeld tried to get his pet.

"The dog took a wrong turn in the trail, part of an old trail that's washed out, halfway down the trail to big zig zag canyon and apparently enthusiastically bounded over the edge, so when I came down the trail he wasn't there, so I called and called and I heard him crying and unfortunately he couldn't get up from where he was, he kept sliding down was panicking," said Rosenfeld.

A witness called 911. Rescuers were able to hoist them up and escort them to a lodge.
