ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - A record number of cars and trucks made the insurance industry's list of "top safety pick" award winners this year.
The list of 115 vehicles from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety includes 18 new recipients on top of the 97 who qualified for the award last year and had it carry over to the 2012 model year.
The vehicles are tested to see how well they hold up in front, side, rear and roll-over crashes.
One of the additions is the Honda Accord, which hadn't won since IIHS added a roof strength test in 2010. Ten of the 18 new vehicles on the list were made by Honda.
The Toyota Camry also received its first-ever top safety pick award. It was among 15 Toyota vehicles to receive the distinction.
