iPhone 4 alarm doesn't observe DST

Apple says next software release will fix glitch

(WPRI) - If you or someone you know has an iPhone 4, warn them now -- there's a glitch in the phone related to Daylight Saving Time, which ends at 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning. iPhone users are at risk of being woken up an hour late when Monday morning rolls around!

The way the phone runs its alarms is the problem. Sunday, the phone's clock will appear to have made the time change just fine, as it's supposed to. But if you've got a recurring alarm set, the alarm could ring an hour late; it doesn't recognize the time change.

The best fix for now is to go into Utilities, go to the Alarm Clock section and delete the recurring alarm altogether. Then, set a new alarm for the same time.

Apple says the problem will be fixed for good in the next software release, iOS 4.2, which rolls out later this month.

Part of the glitch has to do with the U.S. Congress's Uniform Time Act Amendment that took effect back in 2007 to extend Daylight Saving Time. Americans now move their clocks back a week later than Europeans do, and European iPhone aficionados started experiencing the trouble last week.
