BLUE MOUNTAINS, Australia (CNN) - Bush fires are raging in eastern Australia.
Volunteer firefighter Michael Green shot this video Thursday while driving through a wall of flames to his home in the Blue Mountains, northwest of Sydney.
Green says he and his wife could feel the intense heat through their windows.
Hot, dry and windy conditions have produced at least 56 fires. Officials say 12 of the fires are out of control.
Hundreds of homes have been damaged or destroyed, and there has been at least one death blamed on the fires.
A State of Emergency is in effect across New South Wales. The declaration gives firefighters special authority as conditions worsen.
