About Us

The Diabetes and Endocrinology Center of Western New York is part of a comprehensive clinical care and education program sponsored by Kaleida Health Hospital Organization and the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. This partnership between Kaleida, the university and the center offers a leading edge on technology and development and assures the best and most advanced patient care. The Diabetes Endocrinology Center of Western New York has gained recognition as one of the finest centers for the treatment and research of Diabetes in the world today. Because of the pioneering work we perform with cutting edge science, studies and procedures patients now enjoy a higher level of care with fewer of the ill effects normally associated with Diabetic Disease. Our excellent staff of physicians, nurses, physician assistants and researchers at the center is lead by Paresh Dandona M.D., who has had an illustrious career in both American and English Medicine. After contributing more than 400 publications for medical literature, Dr. Dandona continues to make research a high priority. The center currently has numerous studies in progress and more are in the process of being realized in the future to continue the fight against diabetes.

The center started with one attending physician, a diabetes educator and a dietician in 1995 in the basement of the Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital with no previous patient clientele. With the rapid success in patient care the reputation of the unit grew and the number of patient referrals increased. The unit moved to the top floor of the hospital with a large area dedicated to the comprehensive care of diabetic patients. With the establishment of its patient base, the rejuvenation of the university fellowship program and the recruitment of additional attending physicians, a strong team had been built by the year 2001. It was now comprised of four additional attending physicians, two full time diabetes educators, two dieticians who are also CDE’s, LPNs and nursing assistants trained in the standard practices involved in the care of patients with diabetes and other endocrinological conditions. A lot of this training was conducted in our own unit in order to ensure consistency with the practices, which had evolved with time.
