BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Buffalo's army of crime fighters are hitting the streets on foot and on bike.
The police department's foot and bicycle patrols will be making the rounds in city parks, neighborhoods and business districts all summer long.
Mayor Byron Brown said, "We are always looking for ways to be more effective in reducing crime in the City of Buffalo and bicycle and foot patrols is a way to do that."
The mayor says overall crime in the city has dropped almost 20 percent since 2006.
The Erie County Democratic Committee endorsed Brown for mayor on Thursday. He'll face Bernie Tolbert, the former head of the Buffalo FBI, in the Democratic primary.
