A new class of Buffalo School Board Members took their seats this evening, at a crucial time for city students.
Paladino has announced he is making it a mission of his to get rid of Dr. Pamela Brown as Superintendent of City Schools.
He says she is unqualified and shouldn't have been hired in the first place.
On the other end of the spectrum, Dr. Brown responds to Paladino's opinions of her and her work. She says things have improved since she became superintendent last July.
Dr. Brown touted a 2% increase in student attendance over the last year. She states attendance rates are now above 90%.
Monday morning, the superintendent announced a 'reorganization' in the central office staff; Some departments have different titles and a more streamlined role in student and teacher support.
Dr. Brown showed different flow charts and diagrams to illustrate her point. She had no comment when News 4's Ed Drantch asked her how this ‘reorganization' would improve graduation rates in the city.
Barbara Seals Nevergold, the new Board of Education President said she will be able to work with Paladino, but said she hopes he doesn't become a distraction in the board's mission, to move the district forward.
Nevergold was asked what she will do to 'right the wrongs' for the Buffalo City schools that are failing and in which many are leaving to go to Suburban schools. She said, ‘I won't accept that people are leaving because of the public schools. It's not my plan; it's the district's plan. It's a plan that has been initiated by Dr. Brown."
Dr. Brown said her plans include: credit recovery programs, a summer school program for every grade, and a freshman academy that gives students an idea of what they want their career to be in the future.
Paladino said he will file a motion Tuesday to oust Dr. Brown.
