The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation cut the ribbon Friday afternoon on its 520-foot dock extension at Canalside. This addition doubles the length of the dock, making room for up to 40 more boats.
Chairman Robert Gioia said, "The governor has said, 'Listen, we have to do what the public has been demanding for so long with access to the waterfront.' And I don't think you can get much closer than we are right now."
State funding paid for the $1 million project.
The extra space is expected to be put to good use. Some 800 events are on tap for Canalside this summer - almost double that of last year.
