BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Federal budget cuts are threatening to take away the homes of dozens of families in Buffalo that depend on subsidies to pay rent for public housing.
Cuts to the public housing program in Buffalo could be close to $2 million. Currently, 1,200 families receive rent vouchers to make ends meet.
BMHA Executive Director Dawn Sanders-Garrett said, "There's a possibility of over 100 families losing their vouchers, but we're not at that point yet, so we will do everything that we can to make sure that doesn't happen."
Sanders-Garrett says these families are "at the mercy of the White House and Congress." These cuts could take place beginning in July.
