GOWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Two corrections officers at the Gowanda Correctional Facility were slashed by an inmate on Friday.
Authorities say a guard stopped inmate Duane Mims in the mess hall when he was acting suspiciously. The inmate turned and slashed the guard four times on her left forearm, causing minor cuts. When a second guard stepped in to help restrain Mims, he was slashed across the palm.
Officers say they found two weapons on Mims, both apparently made out of a serrated metal strip used on rolls of saran wrap. He is expected to be charged with assault.
