SHERMAN, N.Y. (WIVB) - Deputies say a 21-year-old woman was drunk and using her cell phone when she crashed into a utility pole and street sign in Chautauqua County.
The sheriff's office was called to West Main Street in Sherman around 1 a.m. last Friday for reports of a one-vehicle accident. Deputies determined Tara VanVolkenburg crashed her Pontiac Grand Prix into a utility pole and street sign while driving drunk and using her cell phone.
The 21-year-old woman was arrested for DWI, failure to keep right, operating a motor vehicle while using a cell phone, and having an open container of alcohol in her vehicle.
She was not injured in the crash and is due back in court at a later date.
