PERRY, N.Y. (WIVB) - Deputies had to wrestle with a drunk driving suspect for several minutes before being able to take him into custody just after midnight on Sunday.
The Wyoming County Sheriff's Office was called to Rt. 20A in the Town of Perry on reports a driver had nearly caused several accidents. An off-duty officer saw the vehicle pull into a home on Coe Road and deputies arrived moments later.
The suspect approached the roadway where a deputy and uniformed off-duty officer from the NYS Park Police were. According to the sheriff's office, the suspect, 32-year-old Kenneth King, Jr., refused to cooperate and became aggressive. Authorities say he would not put his hands behind his back and shoved officers. When officers went to take King into custody, authorities say he hit them, injuring them and damaging three pieces of police equipment.
After a several minute struggle, King was taken into custody.
King is charged with second degree assault, felony DWI, three counts of fourth degree criminal mischief, second degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. During arraignment, his license was suspended.
King is being held in the Wyoming County Jail on $20,000 bail.
