LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) - A crash between a dump truck and a pickup truck caused a fire Wednesday afternoon, claiming a life.
The tragic incident happened in the Town of Lockport between Robinson Road and State Street. State Police say the pickup truck driver appears to have crossed the center line and into the path of the dump truck. There is no information yet on why he went into the oncoming lane.
The pickup truck started on fire, trapping a person inside. The victim, 60-year-old James J. Silva, died in the incident. Investigators say the fire and extent of the damage were so intense, they were not initially sure if the driver was male or female.
At this point, troopers do not expect to file charges. The road was closed for hours as the scene was reconstructed. It has since re-opened.
The name of the victim has not been released.
