BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A man who cheated taxpayers out of $67,000 won't be spending any time behind bars.
Karem Almadrahi, 25, of Buffalo admitted he exchanged customers' food stamp benefits for cash while working at Zip's Food and Beverage on Niagara Street. He received $67,000 in food stamps in less than a two-year period.
Tuesday, a federal judge sentenced Almadrahi to eight months of home confinement and three years probation. He was also ordered to pay restitution.
Riyadh Almadrahi previously pleaded guilty to food stamp fraud. He worked at the same deli and received $143,000 in benefits while employed there.
