ALDEN, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Erie County Sheriff's Office says two people were arrested at the Correctional Facility in Alden for allegedly trying to smuggle controlled substances and other contraband into the building.
The sheriff's office says 34-year-old Christine L. Baughman was conspiring with her boyfriend 31-year-old Steven J. Williams, who is an inmate serving a 60 day sentence. Baughman allegedly visited Williams Saturday morning and showed up with a balloon that had prescription pills and tobacco inside of it.
According to the sheriff's office, Baughman was taken into custody as she entered the visitors' area. Baughman was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy, promoting prison contraband and possession of a controlled substance outside the original container.
Williams was charged with conspiracy and attempted introduction of prison contraband. They are both expected to appear in Alden Town Court on Wednesday.
