BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The U.S. Attorney has arrested a Niagara Falls man, already facing drug and weapons charges, and additionally charged him with trying to bribe a witness.
U.S. Attorney William Hochul says Rodriguez Brown, 34, was indicted on charges of violating narcotics and firearms statutes. While authorities pursued those charges, the Niagara Falls Police Department was alerted that Brown was trying to bribe a witness in that case to keep that witness from testifying. The witness reportedly will testify that Brown sold cocaine and Brown was looking to have the witness deny that charge instead.
Last Thursday, federal agents were in the parking lot of the Tops on Niagara Street when Brown met the witness and say he made a down payment for the bribe. Brown was then placed under arrest.
He is being charged with attempting to corruptly persuade a witness or informant, with the intent to influence or prevent the testimony of that witness or information in a federal criminal trial on top of his other charges. This charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in jail.
Brown is being held pending a detention hearing on April 25th.
