ALBION, N.Y. (WIVB) - After receiving a tip about a man wanted in another state, the Orleans County Major Felony Crime Task Force took Leonel Lopez-Alvarado into custody Thursday on West Bank Street in Albion.
Authorities say the 30-year-old is wanted in Michigan for aggravated assault using a firearm and is an illegal immigrant who has twice been deported. After searching his home on West Academy Street in Albion, police seized a loaded 9MM pistol and ammo, as well as a fake social security card and alien registration card.
Leonel Lopez-Alvarado was additionally charged with fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, and two counts of second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
After being arraigned, he was taken to the Orleans County Jail, where he is being held on a detainer filed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He will face federal charges for re-entry into the U.S., and face extradition to Michigan to answer to charges there.
