CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) - The owner of a Chinese restaurant now admits he was using Mexican cooks who were in the U.S. illegally to make food for his customers.
Wan Qin Lu of Cheektowaga pleaded guilty Tuesday to harboring illegal aliens for commercial advantage and private financial gain. Lu employed two illegal Mexican immigrants at his restaurant, Easy Z Wok, in Cheektowaga and allowed them to live in the basement of his home. He paid the cooks in cash and thereby avoided payroll taxes.
Lu will be sentenced in January and faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
