HARTLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) - Suspected metal scrappers stole stakes used to hold up flags from the graves of 14 veterans at the Hartland Cemetery on Ridge Road.
Sheriff's deputies say the thefts happened Tuesday, and the caretaker found the flags discarded in the bushes a couple days later. The stakes from the flagholders had been unscrewed and were taken, though the flags and bronze plaques were left behind.
Authorities say the loss is estimated at $210.
